Welcome to Hunter Street
Homeschool Cooperative

Hunter Street Homeschool Cooperative exists to provide quality educational experiences from a biblical worldview.

  • The Hunter Street Homeschool Cooperative is a collection of homeschooling parents organized in a cooperative homeschool model through which we have a faculty to assist in learning. Our model combines the experience of professional educators and cooperative learning with the flexibility and individual attention of homeschooling. Classes are intended to serve as a supplement to the home education you are providing your child.

  • “The Hunter Street Homeschool Cooperative provides a quality education from a biblical worldview. It is our intention to place ‘faith in learning.’”

    Inspired Learning
We view learning as a joyful adventure. To that end, we make our classrooms a safe, inviting, and nurturing place. Children are encouraged in each area of study through stimulating, creative, and hands-on activities that promote depth of understanding. We weave the story of God’s amazing creativity and his redemptive love through each subject and seek to honor Him in the quality and depth of our teaching.

    Engaging Partnerships
We seek to partner with parents as they walk with God in their responsibility to educate their children. We provide a culture of open, respectful, and engaging dialogue between home teacher and classroom teacher with the goal of helping each child to reach his or her full, God-given potential.

    Dynamic Development
In relating to God, to one another, and to our children, we desire to be a God-honoring community who walk together in grace and truth. We provide an environment of support and encouragement for parents while building healthy relationships for our children. We seek to draw on the gift of our relationship with our God and Father for every aspect of our school culture.

    Structured Flexibility
We believe strongly in the twin educational gifts of structure and flexibility. We provide the structure and accountability of a classroom community working together while maintaining freedom for each family to organize their home teaching in a way that provides the desired growth for their children.

  • As a ministry of Hunter Street Baptist Church, the Hunter Street Homeschool Cooperative affirms and engages The Baptist Faith and Message (2000), and our Statement of Beliefs.

  • Our story is yet to be written. What started as conversations with many homeschooling families at Hunter Street has now become a reality. In August 2024, Hunter Street will open the Homeschool Cooperative for grades 1-3. Our intention is to add a grade each year.

  • For the 2024-2025 academic year, our program offerings are as follows:

    What is the class size?
The maximum enrollment for each class is 15 students.

    How many classes are available?
The cooperative is launching with one first grade class, one second grade class and one third grade class. A grade will be added each year.

    Is there a “wait list?”
Yes. Registration/enrollment will be tracked by the order received and will be considered in that order. Once the maximum enrollment for a class is achieved, subsequent registrations will be added to the “wait list” by order received.

Consideration will be given to families with multiple children in multiple grades.

What curriculum will the cooperative use?
As of January 3, 2024, the following curriculum has been selected:
    Saxon Math Grades 1 - 3
    All About Reading Grades 1-3
    All About Spelling Grades 1-3
    Grammar Minutes Grades 1-3
History and Science are yet to be selected.

The new faculty has been instrumental in selecting curriculum that is grade appropriate and commensurate with state of Alabama academic requirements.

Additionally, Hunter Street Baptist Church has prioritized providing a biblical world view in our homeschool cooperative. Scripture, faith, and spiritual development are important components of the cooperative environment.

    When will the cooperative start?
The first day of classes will be August 15, 2024.

When and where will the cooperative meet?
Classes will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 1:30pm on the second floor of the Preschool/Children building (Hunter Street Kids).

    What about lunch?
Students are to bring lunch to school each day.

    Who is my child’s teacher?
The cooperative is in its first year. Faculty is being recruited. Parents may have assurance that the cooperative is recruiting qualified instructors.

Is this cooperative a cover school?
No, we are not a cover school. Families will need a cover school of their choosing.

As a parent, am I expected to stay for classes?
Parents, or other guardians, are to drop off and pick up their child(ren). Parents are not expected to stay on campus for classes. It is expected that parents be available to pick up their children from the campus should an emergency occur.

What does a typical day look like?
Classes meet from 8:30am to 1:30pm. There are three academic class periods, a lunch break, and an opportunity for recreation. The details for “chapel” are yet to be formalized but will be an important part of the schedule.

There will be an additional expense for curriculum. Over the course of the year, there may be opportunities for field trips and class parties.

    Is the registration fee refundable?

Absolutely! We understand that circumstances may arise, and we want to assure you that the registration fee is refundable in certain situations:

    1. If, for any reason, you are not accepted into the Cooperative after paying the fee.

    2. If you decide to withdraw from the Cooperative before March 31, 2024.

At Hunter Street Baptist Church, our goal is to support and encourage your participation in the cooperative. The registration fee plays a crucial role in facilitating the enrollment process by covering expenses such as the administrative portal, teacher supplies, photocopying, and technical support.

It's important to emphasize that our intention is not to benefit from registration fees; rather, it is to ensure a smooth and enriching experience for everyone involved. Your commitment is highly valued, and paying the registration fee signifies your intent to actively participate in the cooperative. As we embark on this inaugural year with a maximum of 45 students, knowing who is fully committed helps us create a vibrant and engaging community. Thank you for being a part of this exciting journey!
